Crushing on Max Mara's Marilyn

Max Mara RTW Fall 15 left me feeling warm and cosy inside. True to Max Mara signature outerwear focused, wooly coats, cashmere cardigan and layer knits were the stars of the show. Inspired by photographs taken by George Barris in 1962 of Marilyn, the show took us to the breezy seaside with luscious waves projected onto the runway.

Models stride through the waters with wildly tousled hair, eyeliner and peachy lips oozes femininity of Marilyn Monroe that we find so captivating. Nudes, Camel and pastel are displayed in Minimalist lines of oversize coat hugging the body like a warm blanket.

Cat eye glasses and kitten heels paired with 1950's pencil skirt gives us true bombshell vibe with waist ecentuating soft curves . Padded silky quilting, tasseled loafers and fuzzy trims on jackets and coats brings this beach girl to night time sophistication. This collection is highly wearable, comfortable and gives us a reason to stick with camel just a little while longer.

Manish Arora To The Max

For people that know me, they know I like a bit of kitch. I have always been drawn to maximalism style when I was an art student all the teachers use to tell me "edit. edit. edit. There's too much going on in your work.". But I like being bombarded with many ideas at once, it intrigues me. Its like an explosion of creativity that can't be contained. Why is that so wrong? I do understand to a degree. Balance brings beauty and sometimes less is more. But may be its like marmite some people hate it and some just can't get enough.

Manish Arora is like Marmite, though I hate Marmite (not great analogy in hind sight) but I love his work. He is an Indian fashion designer based in New Delhi and no stranger to the runway. He had a successful debut at the London Fashion Week in September 2005 and exhibited some of his work at the V&A in 2007. He has done many collaborations with brands like Reebok, M.A.C and Swatch. He was once creative director of the womenswear for fashion house Paco Rabanne in 2011-12. Manish was dubbed the "John Galliano of India", is known for his signicture rich palette of psychedelic colours and bold motifs. His style combine traditional Indian crafts like embroidery, appliqué and beading with fashionable and more western silhouette. Here's his SS15 collection at Paris fashion week in detail.

When nearly everyone else is looking back at supposedly more prosperous times, clean and minimal designs. The indian designer never lets reality get in the way of his never-ending cheerfulness. This collection is like taking a trippy space cookie. You're a free spirited traveller on a journey through mountains of candy  and pastel landscape of roses. Guided by a hazy three eyed indian goddess Bhadra Kali into a spaceship dotted with astro lights. It takes a moment to adjust to the fast pace visuals but its a storytelling paradise of modern mythology/space oddysey that's exciting in its presentation. Symbolic hindu beauty of Bindi, coloured hair parting and Naath (nose ring) were his runway signature look, a homage to his motherland.

Prints of kaleidoscopic cosmos world, double vision dreamstate motifs and 3D embroidered roses were displayed on lightweight sporty silhouette. T-shirt dress, jumpers, cycling shorts and glittering tube tops injects a relaxed ease. Pastel colours layered in sheer textures of chiffon and holographic panels creates a light hearted frothiness. Pearlescent, reflective embroidery and pleated sequins painstakingly crafted by Indian artisans were balanced out by breather spaced of iridescent lurex, where large expanses were left blank. This may be his version of editing down. Armed with Gladiator cyber sandals, PVC backpacks, bum bags and beaded baseball caps, Manish's girls are ready to enter the mothership!

Though his work can't be mistaken for anyone else's. There is a softer, normal-ish side to this collection than the previous. He has developed realist perception of what women want today, this will no doubt be the best lure to draw Parisians to his new flagship store. I could also see a similarity of influence by the way singer like MIA dresses (especially the hooded robe pieces). Her MV: XXXO really captured the sort of new take on Bollywood culture and indian art with modern twist.

Statement Coats

I'm not going to pretend this post is about anything more than a collection of coats that I like. Trench and parkas has become British favourites rainwear this year. Trench coat is a great tran-sesonal piece, classic and smart for work. While parkas have become popular with sporty trend for a dressed down, off for a run or around town on weekends. London climate it pretty much cold most of the time so Londoners pretty much live in coats, am I right? I mean apart from those brave souls we see bared legs in heels come rain or snow, but most of us like to be cosy while getting to places. I think its a good idea to invest in a good statement coat. Usually I'm all about high street stuff but if there's two things worth splurging on, those are bags and coats. Ok, may be shoes too. Three things. Problems with high street coat is that, its great value and on trend but you're likely to see someone else in the same coat or similar ones from Zara or Topshop and come next season the once fashionable would seem dated and possibly missing a button somewhere. The difference between quality matters in coats as its something you're likely to wear a lot and needs to stand through wear and tear. Here are some of my standout favourites from the this spring summer runway.

A good coat will last you a life time. I don't mean go out and buy a Fendi fur coat with your three months's wage. I suggest when looking for a new coat think less about trends, go for a more classic style black coat or something that completely stands out on it own. Vintage is a good place to start, you know its good quality if it last through the decades, its unique and possibly has a great story behind it. Boutique brands are also great place to look, in theory they're not so mass produced therefor less chance of spotting the same coat. Consider things like, colours, pattern, embellishments or a flattering cut. Lately I've been itching to get a good satin or metallic coat. Medi and maxi coats are also popular now. I have selected a few coats that will guarantee to turn heads while keeping you warm and without bleeding you wallet dry. You can buy any of these online and the links are below. Enjoy!

Stripes VS Grid : Trend Report SS15

While stripes are no stranger to spring runway for once, a spring stripe that's not "nautical". Lets celebrate the freshness of these strong, multi-colors, graphic, non-nautical stripes, they were iterated in various directions, widths, and on different fabrications. Designers haven't shied away from all-over stripe looks, Giles and Suno did striped pyjama trousers and suits, Preen went for cricket stripes, and Peter Pilotto offered asymmetric panels on skater dresses, carrying varying stripes to good effect.

We also now have a sister trend on the grid, literally. Grid. Whether it be sheer, lattice, die cut or disguise as gingham its all here. Snappy black and white windowpane checks bring mod flair to strait-laced shapes demonstrated by Proenza Schouler, Balmain and Versace. Gingham doesn't have to be vanilla and strictly at children's picnic. Adult vision of gingham was seen on: soft knits and layered at Oscar De La Renta; chic wrap dress at Diane Von Furstenberg and sleek shirt and pencil skit at Altuzarra. So put that on your next S/S check list!

Faux Real!

Yes guys. I'm afraid to say it but summer is over and winter is creeping in. Time to remove your holiday hats and sandals out of your wardrobe and into a bag labeled 'summer clothes'. Don't be sad though winter has its perks. You can now start layering and forgetting about bikini bodies and have a warm cup of cocoa curl your feet in comfy boots. Start looking forward to fall holidays. See, there you go...not all bad huh?

Talks of cosy and warm, winter without fur is like summer without shorts. Faux fur trend is so strong this A/W you will not be able to turn anywhere without getting fluff stuck on your lip gloss. Faux is now not a shameful word in fashion or a cheaper version of the real thing anymore. It's guilt free fashion with no fear of being attacked by PETA with the bonus also being affordable-ish (as more fashion designers are now going faux the price with likely increase). Up and coming British designers like Charlotte Simone and Shrimps have found the niche in this market and have created some crazy cool stuff for us to lust over. From big shaggy coats, scarves, cute collars, clutch and as previously blogged, keychians. These are all furry must haves!

Shrimps  London-based designer Hannah Weiland serves up faux fur creations with an irresistible sense of fun. Fall14 collection is inspired by the pop art collages of Eduardo Paolozzi and British cartoons. These boxy shapes and colour block lines can be paired with silk pj's or feminine dresses.

British based designer Charlotte Beecham founded Charlotte Simone in 2011. Charlotte sought to reinvent the everyday scarf, designed the unique 'fur hood' that has become her trademark piece. Charlotte Simone aims to develop a variety of new shapes and textures with an ultimate focus on ‘reinventing the scarf’. The Popsicle scarf is now among celebs favorites.

Big Bird Wants His Coat Back!

It's fall fashion week so no doubt there would be fur. This year its the super coats, it's voluminous, faux fur, shearling, teddy and luxe feathers. If you only buy one thing for the new season, it must be a statement fur coat. I haven't seen this much fur since sesame street!

Shearling is king, the season's most-used fabric. Gucci delivered double breasted sheepskin jackets in pastels sixties downtown cool, while Miu Miu layered over raincoat and sporty school girl silhouette. The furry, fuzzy teddy faux fur brings a modern take to shearling, Erdem and Bottega translate them into chic dresses. The pallet is kept pale, nude or monochrome like at Akris.

Fur Trim. If all over fur is not your thing then fur trim should surely do the trick, coloured stripes accentuate the seams and give it a graphic quality. It has been prevalent in every city and in various ways. Prada gave us Del Boy-style oversize jackets while Chloé kept it slightly more subtle with fuzz trimmed booties. George Styler and Christopher Kane (dreaming of this coat) kept their pink shearling, on cuffs and collars contrast with black patent fabrics. Most designers concentrate on big lapels to showcase their furry trims.

Griphic Faux. Designers look to geometry, sourcing inspirations and experiment though grids and patchwork. Chic assemble of patchwork in a variety of textures at Roksanda Illincic and topshop, and nipped waist grid coats at Daks and Altuzara. Quirky designs were seen at Carven, Tusumori and Pucci. Astrakhan fabric in addition to multicoloured fur also being presented at Miu Miu, Jason Wu, and Christian Dior.

Luxe feathers like the ones below are not my favourite trends as I do not promote real fur. But these crazy fur coats must be like traveling around in a warm cloud. Explosive volumes were seen at Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli and Alexander McQueen. Ralph Lauren and Ralph Rucci keep their outerwear light in softest feathery cape coat while Dolce and Gabbana and Fendi work the eskimo hood.

The Foil Trend

It's all about shining bright in foil fabric for spring/summer, the coloured metallic trend noticed since last year on the catwalk for designers such as Burberry Prorsum, Dior and Jonathan Saunders has stuck around with all sorts of garments filtering into this year in a mixture of rainbow shades. Which was full of glamour and energy striking out with the use of rhinestones palette. Precious mineral tones like green beetle, sapphire,  emerald, bronze, quartz, and ruby shimmers like opening a box of Quality Street sweets.

Burberry Prorsum S/S 2013

Burberry Prorsum has succeeded in maintaining their signature British heritage of their iconic trench coat,  while bringing contemporary designs with high-tech materials expressed such versatility. I've been wanting to do a post on this collection for awhile now, though I'm glad I waited, as this fall 14 there were even foiling to embrace. The trend should not be mistaken though for just metallic or shimmery sequins. It shines a whole lot brighter, bolder, slicker, waxier with a foil like quality that rustles and crackles as it moves.

Moody Florals

We are use to seeing floral trend during the Spring/Summer runway but this time we spotted florals earlier this year on the fall runway since February. This is because this floral trend has reinvent a dark twist, which will be perfect for this winter. Its lush bloom colour pallet of deep purple, burnt orange, dark red on blacken silks and chiffon giving us a romantic autumn vibe. The look is organic and dark with a hint of flesh (in both sheer and cut outs) and the florals are delicate and soft in perfect balance with each other to create an elegant feminine silhouette. Erdem chose to scatter their darker florals with lemon yellow and red spots, Lanvin and Giambattista Valli went graphics with their florals while Oscar De La Renta and Mulberry look to tapestry for their inspirations. Valentino and Vera Wang opted for a vintage style with Valentino using embroidery on lace and Vera Wang with shiny prints on satin, both leaving the floral to speak for itself. The trend works for both masculine and feminine style. Pair it with leather jacket and boots with stained lips like Givenchy for a tougher look. Or channel moody femme fatale with middle parting hair, messy brows and nude glossy lips like Valentino.

Style Lust: True Romance

Hi guys! So this post is inspired by one of my favourite movie True Romance (1993). Written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott. Its a gangster movie driven by a wild romantic love story, think Bonnie and Clyde. This film takes you to Quentin Tarentino's world, with sharp dialogue, dark humour and a lot of blood and guns.

The charactors absolutely captures American 90's fashion of what I can only sum up as trailer trash: bright colours, crazy printed leggings, Hawaiian shirts, candy coloured sunglasses, crop tops. If Barbie and Ken were to live in a trailor park and listen to a lot of Elvis, that would be their wardrobe. The leading actress Patricia Arquette played Alabama, a call girl with lustful wardrobe.
