3.1 Phillip Lim spring12

+

=

Ever wondered what you get when you mix two lazy afternoon nostalgic items like Sorbet and kite together? Hmm neither have I...but Phillip Lim did. His spring collection was a tribute to his childhood spending his day flying kites. Models struts triangle shapes and loose stripes of garments hanging and flutters swiftly in the air much like a kite in the sky. The pale sherbet palette evokes colours washed out by hours in the sun. Collection has a subtle sporty reference like drawstrings, and hoods. it explores further of his geometric minimalism flair seen last season. From making his own kite as a child he is aware of the balance of the airy fabric and tension and weight. The lightweight silk and chiffon tanks and pants often juxtaposed with heavy woven cotton outerwear. All together gives a casual cool uniform unlike many crazy prints we have been seeing this spring.

The simplicity and basic nature of the collection may not necessary make you stand out or heads turn. Until you see that some garments can be convert into bags and totes! By well hidden zippers clothing becomes practical accessory this shows innovation in the simplicity just like a kite.

DIY: Dolce & Gabbana accessories

From last post I got obsess Dolce & Gabbana's matching hairband and earrings set. They look so feminine and classic. Credit to the genius of Erica from HONESTLY...WTF.COM. She has made a great tutorial on how to DIY this and it looks great! Here is my version...

Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2012

A collection inspired by the decadent and romanticism of the Boroque period. Angelic-faced models grace the runway surrounded by chandeliers and antique mirrors. Like images form Roman Catholic church paintings represented by vintage floral and cherubs prints, black velvet, heavily embroidered, gold embellishments, white lace dresses. Feminine silhouette demonstrated by dome sleeves, crop cape, sheer lace and structured tulip skirt nipped in at the waist with gold embroidered belt. Accessories were opulent jewels encrusted hairbands and earrings. Elegant heels over lace socks covered in floral appliqué. A heavenly stunning show that could make me believe I found religion.

On The Fringe

This spring swap your shaggy bohemian fringe for some Jazz Age fringe! Great Gatsby inspired trend of luxe fringe trim cocktail dresses. Seen on Etro, Moschino and Gucci collections send us all flapper crazy. Mark Fast, fringing knitwear guru, translate this season's fringe trend into a beachy cover-up. While Sharon Wauchob and Louis Vuitton keeps it lightweight with ostrich feather, Moncler Gamme Rouge takes you to a florescent fringe wonderland. Its official fringe is here and its staying!

DIY: Neon Necklace

I've been seeing a lot of DIY fringe necklace  around. As tribal trend is coming in strong, a fringe necklace would really complement that or would also be an easy way to dress up a simple top. Here and here are my most favourite DIY pieces that others have done. They are easy and cheap to do, simply add a strip of fringe trim to any necklace you have. Dye it, layer it or bead it any way you like.

This piece is inspired by Día de los Muertos (Day of the dead) festival in Mexico.  I love the vibrant decorations, decorative skulls and blooming Marigolds. The meaning behind it is wonderful and the festivity have definitely inspired many designers in the past. The skull beads can be found on ebay or any bead shops. I brought mine as bracelets originally from H&M, their Fashion Against Aids summer 2012 collection where 25% of your money will go towards a charitable endeavor.

This is what you will need:

Chunky gold chain necklace
Neon fringe trimming
Small silver chain
Two pliers
Skull beads
Small wooden beads
Silver jump rings for spikes
Spiky beads
Needle and clear elastic thread

Step 1: Cut neon fringe into the appropriate length and with needle and clear thread sew fringe onto the gold necklace.

Step 2: Attach spikes to the silver chain by using jump rings and pliers. Then with slightly larger jump rings attach the two ends of the spikes chain to the gold necklace. I gave it a bit more room on both ends so the spikes dangle slightly lower than the gold chain.

Step 3: Thread the skull and wodden beads into the right sequence onto clear thread. Knot the bottom end and cut (leave the top end long). I made 6 strands all together and place them with equal spacing on the necklace.

Step 4: Loop the thread you left on top of the skull beads through to the necklace. Thread through all the beads to the bottom and secure the ends. Repeat it on all 6 strands.

Then Feel free to walk on the bright side of life!
Thanks guys x

DIY: Fringe Top

Some fringe trim I had left from making the necklace is now gone.
Here is what happened to it...too much neon now I can't sleep.

Sheer white top from H&M...a lot of white lately and I love sheer ♥.  I cut the fringe trim the same length as the top. Going along the seam pinning it in place and stitch with white thread. Worn with neon bra and Sandro skirt for a minimalist look.

Trailer Park Chic

This is a follow up post from my yesterday's one. If everyone living in trailer parks dresses like this then I might consider selling my current flat and downsizing to a mobile home and party with Miss B. This trend spots bold prints, crop tops, bralets, retro hair, gold and chunky accessories, vibrant hues, oozes sex appeal and summer heat.
